Pittsburgh Stairlift Questions, Answered
How much does a stairlift cost in Pittsburgh?
Indoor straight stairlifts generally range from $3,000–$6,000 installed, while outdoor straight stairlifts typically range from $5,000–$7,000. Indoor curved stairlifts generally range from $10,000–$17,000, and outdoor curved stairlifts typically range from $11,000–$18,000.
These are estimates only. Your final price depends on the model, rail length, staircase configuration, installation requirements, and selected options. See the Bruno models we install for starting prices, or schedule a free in-home assessment for a written estimate.
How long does stairlift installation take?
Straight Bruno stairlifts generally take about 2–4 hours to install once the correct equipment is available. Curved stairlifts use a custom-built rail, so additional time is needed for measurement and manufacturing before installation; the onsite curved installation itself generally takes several hours.
Will a stairlift damage my stairs or walls?
Stairlift rails are secured to supports attached to the stair treads rather than mounted to the wall, so major wall or structural modifications are normally not required. Installation does require fasteners in the stair treads, and small mounting holes may remain if the stairlift is removed later.
What happens if the power goes out?
Bruno stairlifts operate on rechargeable batteries and can continue making trips during a power outage when the batteries are charged. The number of available trips depends on the stairlift model, staircase, battery condition, rider weight, and other operating conditions.
Do you install stairlifts outside Pittsburgh?
Yes. Our Pittsburgh team is based at 517 McNeilly Road and serves Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, and surrounding Western Pennsylvania communities. If you're unsure whether we cover your address, call 412-563-9177 and we'll confirm availability for your location.
Can a Veteran get help paying for a stairlift?
VA benefit eligibility depends on the individual Veteran and the specific program. The VA's HISA benefit specifically excludes stair glides, so HISA should not be presented as a stairlift funding source.
Veterans can review other Veteran accessibility benefit resources and confirm eligibility directly with the VA. Financing is also available for qualified buyers on eligible purchases.
Will a stairlift fit my staircase?
Bruno offers straight and curved stairlifts that can accommodate many staircase layouts, but there is no single minimum width that guarantees a stairlift will fit every home or every rider. Stair width, landing space, clearances, staircase configuration, and the user's needs all affect fit.
That's why we start with a free in-home staircase assessment before recommending a model.
Are stairlifts safe?
Bruno stairlifts are designed with safety features such as a seat belt, obstruction sensors, a swivel seat for entering and exiting away from the staircase, and soft start-and-stop operation. Proper installation, regular maintenance, and following the manufacturer's operating instructions are also important for safe use.
How long does a stairlift last?
There is no single guaranteed lifespan for a stairlift. Service life depends on the model, frequency of use, operating conditions, battery condition, and maintenance. Following the manufacturer's maintenance guidance and addressing service needs promptly can help keep the stairlift operating properly over time.
Can a stairlift be moved or removed later?
Yes. A straight stairlift can often be removed and may be reusable on another compatible straight staircase, although rail length and the new staircase dimensions have to work. Curved stairlifts use a custom-built rail made for one specific staircase, so relocating a curved stairlift to a different staircase is rarely practical.
