What to Expect

How a Stairlift Installation Works in Indianapolis

From your free in-home assessment through installation, training, and local service, Altamira's Indianapolis team handles the stairlift process from start to finish.

Free In-Home Assessment

An Altamira specialist visits your Indianapolis-area home to measure the staircase, evaluate the top and bottom landings, review the primary user's needs, and determine whether a straight, curved, indoor, or outdoor stairlift is the best fit. You'll receive a written estimate based on the recommended model, options, and installation requirements.

No-Cost Assessment

Your Stairlift Is Configured

Straight stairlifts use straight rail sections configured to fit the measured staircase and are often available on a shorter lead time. Curved stairlifts require a custom rail made specifically to follow the staircase's turns, landings, and angles, so preparation and delivery typically take longer.

Timing Varies by Model

Professional Installation

Altamira's certified technicians secure the stairlift rail to the stair treads rather than mounting it to the wall. Installation requires fasteners in the treads, so small screw holes may remain if the lift is later removed. Typical Bruno installation time is about 2–4 hours for a straight stairlift and 4–8 hours for a curved stairlift, although site conditions and configuration can affect the schedule.

Straight 2–4 Hrs • Curved 4–8 Hrs

Training & Local Service

Before completing the installation, we review operation of the stairlift with you, including the controls, seat and safety features, remote call controls when equipped, and charging or battery operation. After installation, local service support is available through Altamira's Indianapolis team.

Local Indianapolis Team

Our Indianapolis office is located at 5316 West 79th Street on the northwest side. Altamira's local team provides stairlift installation, service, and repairs throughout Indianapolis and surrounding Central Indiana communities.

SDVOSB — Veteran-Owned

Altamira is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business with 25,000+ Veterans served. The VA HISA benefit does not cover stairlifts or stair glides, but medically necessary stair-glide equipment may be available through VA Prosthetic & Sensory Aids Service when prescribed and authorized. Learn more in our Veteran accessibility benefits guide. The VA makes all eligibility and authorization decisions.

Financing for Qualified Buyers

Financing is available for qualified buyers on eligible purchases and may allow stairlift costs to be spread over time rather than paid entirely up front. Approval, rates, payment amounts, and terms depend on the financing provider and applicant. See our accessibility funding guide for other resources that may be worth exploring.

Battery-Powered Operation

Bruno stairlifts operate on rechargeable batteries, allowing the lift to continue making trips during a power outage. Straight indoor models charge continuously wherever the chair is parked along the rail, while curved and outdoor models charge when parked at designated charging positions at the top or bottom. Available trips during an outage vary with the model, battery charge, staircase, and use.

Bruno Manufacturer Warranty

New Bruno indoor stairlifts include a Limited Lifetime Warranty on major components — including the motor, gearbox, and static rail — for the original purchaser when installed by a Bruno dealer. Other components have separate coverage, and Bruno outdoor stairlifts carry different warranty terms, including a Limited 5-Year Warranty. We'll confirm the applicable manufacturer warranty for the model you choose.

Common Questions

Indianapolis Stairlift Questions

Stairlift not working right? Try our Stairlift Troubleshooter for quick, safe checks.

How much does a stairlift cost in Indianapolis?

Installed stairlift pricing depends on whether the staircase is straight or curved, whether the lift is indoors or outdoors, rail length, site conditions, and the options selected. Altamira's current estimated installed ranges are approximately $3,000–$6,000 for indoor straight stairlifts, $10,000–$17,000 for indoor curved stairlifts, $5,000–$7,000 for outdoor straight stairlifts, and $11,000–$18,000 for outdoor curved stairlifts. These are estimates rather than guaranteed prices. See our straight stairlift models and curved stairlift models for model-specific estimated ranges and features.

Do you install stairlifts outside Indianapolis proper?

Yes. Altamira's Indianapolis team serves Indianapolis and surrounding Central Indiana communities, including Carmel, Fishers, Noblesville, Westfield, Greenwood, Franklin, Avon, Plainfield, Brownsburg, Zionsville, Anderson, Greenfield, Shelbyville, Columbus, Kokomo, Lafayette, Lebanon, and Muncie. Service availability depends on the address and project, so if your community is not listed, call (765) 926-7660 and our Indianapolis team can confirm coverage.

How fast can I get a stairlift installed in Indianapolis?

Once the correct equipment is available and the site is ready, a straight Bruno stairlift typically takes about 2–4 hours to install. Curved stairlifts generally take about 4–8 hours to install, although longer or more complex applications may take additional time. Curved lifts also require a custom rail made for the individual staircase, so their lead time before installation is typically longer than for a straight stairlift. Your Altamira estimate will include the expected timing for the specific model and staircase.

Will an outdoor stairlift work through an Indiana winter?

Bruno Elite straight and curved outdoor stairlifts are specifically designed for exterior use and are rated for operating temperatures from 0°F to 125°F. They use weather-resistant materials and components intended for changing outdoor conditions. As with any exterior mobility equipment, snow, ice, leaves, and debris should be cleared from the staircase and rail area, and the stairlift should be used and maintained according to Bruno's instructions. Our Indianapolis team will review outdoor care with you during installation.

Do you service stairlifts you didn't install?

Altamira can evaluate many existing stairlifts, including some units originally installed by another company. Whether we can complete a repair depends on the brand, model, age of the equipment, condition of the lift, and availability of compatible parts. If your stairlift is not operating correctly, you can first use our Stairlift Troubleshooter for basic safe checks, then call (765) 926-7660 so the Indianapolis team can discuss service options.

Can VA benefits pay for a stairlift in Indiana?

The VA HISA benefit does not cover stairlifts or stair glides. However, medically necessary stair-glide equipment may be furnished through VA Prosthetic & Sensory Aids Service when prescribed and authorized for an eligible Veteran. Other VA programs have their own eligibility rules and should not be assumed to cover a stairlift. Altamira is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business with 25,000+ Veterans served, but the VA makes all eligibility, medical-necessity, and authorization decisions. See our Veteran accessibility benefits guide for more information.

Does Medicare or Indiana Medicaid cover a stairlift?

Original Medicare does not cover stairway elevators as durable medical equipment. Indiana Medicaid Home- and Community-Based Services programs can include authorized home modifications and specialized medical equipment for eligible members, but that does not mean a stairlift is automatically covered. Eligibility, the individual's care plan, medical need, the specific waiver, and program authorization all matter. Our accessibility funding guide explains additional funding sources that may be worth exploring.

Will a stairlift damage my staircase or walls?

Stairlifts are normally secured to the stair treads rather than mounted to the wall, so wall mounting is generally not required. The rail supports are fastened to the stairs with screws. If the stairlift is later removed, small fastener holes may remain, particularly on exposed wood, concrete, or metal stairs. Bruno's narrow vertical rail design on its straight stairlifts is intended to preserve as much usable stairway space as possible.

Does a stairlift still work if the power goes out?

Yes. Bruno stairlifts operate on rechargeable batteries and can make multiple trips during a power outage when the batteries are adequately charged. Charging differs by stairlift type: straight indoor Bruno stairlifts use continuous charging wherever the chair is parked along the rail, while curved and outdoor models charge when parked at designated charging positions at the top or bottom. The number of trips available during an outage varies with the model, battery condition, charge level, staircase, and use.
