Vertical Platform Lifts
Vertical Access for Pittsburgh Homes
A vertical platform lift carries a wheelchair, scooter, or powerchair vertically between two levels, making it a practical option for porches, decks, garage entries, and raised landings where a long wheelchair ramp may not fit. Bruno's residential VPL-3100 series includes models for rises up to 53″ and 75″, while the extended VPL-3210B reaches up to 123″ (10 ft 3 in). Both current series are rated for up to 750 lb.
Every installation starts with an assessment of the entry and site conditions. Our Pittsburgh team measures the required rise and reviews the landing, available space, concrete base and site preparation, electrical requirements, and other installation considerations before providing a written estimate. Vertical Platform Lift Solutions
Bruno Wheelchair Lifts for Pittsburgh Homes
Space-Efficient Vertical Access for Raised Entries
When a porch, deck, garage, or raised entry requires more vertical access than a practical wheelchair ramp can provide, a Bruno vertical platform lift can offer a more space-efficient alternative. The platform travels vertically between levels and is designed to carry one passenger with a wheelchair, scooter, or other compatible mobility device.
Our Pittsburgh team measures the required rise, evaluates the available space and landing conditions, reviews the concrete base and electrical requirements, and determines which VPL configuration is appropriate for the home. Every project starts with a free in-home assessment and written estimate.

Bruno Vertical Platform Lift Features
More Independent Access
A vertical platform lift can provide direct access between ground level and a raised residential entry for people using wheelchairs, scooters, and other compatible mobility devices.
Integrated Safety Features
Current Bruno residential VPLs include a standard emergency-stop switch, an automatic lower ramp that rises as a barrier during travel, and under-platform obstruction protection for unenclosed applications. Platform and ramp surfaces have an anti-skid finish.
Space-Efficient Alternative to a Ramp
Because a VPL travels vertically instead of following a long sloped route, it can be useful at entries where the available yard, driveway, or walkway space makes a long ramp difficult to accommodate.
Indoor & Outdoor Residential Use
Bruno residential VPLs are designed for indoor and outdoor applications and use exterior-grade powder-coated finishes. The legs, platform, and landing-gate components are e-coated for additional finish protection.
Power, Controls & Configuration Options
- Standard platform controls use continuous-operation up/down controls with a keyed on/off switch and emergency-stop control
- The VPL-3100 series is available in AC-powered and DC battery-powered configurations; battery-powered models can continue operating during a household power outage
- The extended-height VPL-3210B is DC battery-powered and includes a separate-battery emergency-lowering system operated from an external lockable keyed switch
- Optional equipment includes landing call/send controls, platform and landing gates, power-assisted gate operators, platform handrails, and other application-specific options
- Straight-through and 90-degree/adjacent-exit platform layouts are available for different residential entry configurations
Find the Right VPL for Your Pittsburgh Home
The appropriate vertical platform lift depends on the required rise, available space, landing layout, site preparation, electrical requirements, and the mobility device that will use the lift. Our Pittsburgh team evaluates those details before recommending a Bruno VPL configuration.

Common Questions
Wheelchair Lift FAQs for Pittsburgh Homes
How much weight can a Bruno wheelchair lift hold?
Current Bruno residential vertical platform lifts are rated for a maximum load of 750 lb. That rating applies to the combined load carried on the platform, including the passenger, mobility device, and anything else being transported. Our Pittsburgh team confirms the selected lift and configuration during the site assessment.
How high can a vertical platform lift travel?
Bruno's current VPL-3100 series includes the VPL-3153 for floor-to-floor rises up to 53″ and the VPL-3175 for rises up to 75″. For taller residential applications, the VPL-3210B provides a maximum floor-to-floor rise of 123″, or 10 ft 3 in.
We measure the actual rise and landing conditions before recommending a model.
Can a wheelchair lift be installed outdoors?
Yes. Bruno's current residential VPL-3100 series and VPL-3210B are designed for both indoor and outdoor residential applications. They use exterior-grade powder-coated finishes, with e-coated platform, leg, and landing-gate components for additional finish protection.
Bruno also offers a cold-weather package and recommends it when operating temperatures are expected to fall below 20°F, which can be worth considering for Pittsburgh-area outdoor installations.
What happens if the power goes out?
It depends on the VPL's power configuration. The Bruno VPL-3100 series is available in both AC-powered and DC battery-powered versions. Battery-powered models can continue operating during a household power outage, while an AC-only unit depends on household power.
The extended-height VPL-3210B is DC battery powered and also includes a separate-battery emergency-lowering system operated from an external keyed control. We'll review the available power options when planning your installation.
Are vertical platform lifts ADA-compliant?
ADA compliance depends on the complete installation and where the lift is being used, not simply on the lift model itself. In facilities subject to the ADA Standards, platform lifts are permitted as part of an accessible route in specific situations and must meet the applicable requirements for platform lifts, including Section 410.
For a residential Pittsburgh installation, the project must also be evaluated against applicable state and local building, electrical, lift, permitting, and site requirements. We plan the equipment and installation around the requirements that apply to the specific project.
What site preparation is needed for a vertical platform lift?
Site preparation depends on the lift and entry, but a Bruno VPL generally requires an appropriate reinforced concrete base, adequate space and clearance for platform travel, preparation at the upper landing where needed, and electrical service for either the lift or its battery charger.
During the free site assessment, our Pittsburgh team reviews the required rise, platform location, landing conditions, concrete base, electrical requirements, gate configuration, and other installation considerations before providing a written estimate.
