Interior or Exterior — Which Vehicle Lift Fits Your Life?
A vehicle lift raises and lowers an unoccupied scooter, power wheelchair, or manual wheelchair so it travels with you. You roll the device onto a platform or connect a docking device, press a button, and the lift does the work. The right choice usually comes down to one question: do you want the device stored inside the vehicle, or outside it?
Interior Lifts
The lift stows your mobility device inside the vehicle's cargo area, out of the weather and out of sight. Bruno's Joey is a platform-style interior lift; the Curb-Sider is a hoist (crane) style.
- Keeps the device dry through an Ohio winter
- Best suited to minivans, SUVs, vans, and trucks with cargo room
- Uses interior cargo space that would otherwise stay open
Exterior Lifts
The lift mounts to the vehicle's hitch or rear and carries your device outside, so your trunk, cargo area, and seating stay free. Bruno's Out-Sider and Chariot are exterior platform lifts.
- Preserves interior seating and cargo space
- Works behind a wide range of vehicle sizes
- Leaves the device exposed to weather and road conditions
Types of Auto Lifts We Install in Dayton
Five Bruno models, each built for a different combination of vehicle and mobility device. Tap any one to jump to the details.
Bruno Automobile Lifts for Dayton Drivers
Altamira installs Bruno vehicle lifts. Which model is right depends on your vehicle, your mobility device, and how you use both — so here is what each one is built to do.
Exterior
Out-Sider
Platform style · 350 lb lift capacity
Bruno's most popular exterior platform lift for scooters, wheelchairs, and powerchairs. It attaches to the vehicle's hitch, preserving interior seating and cargo space, and its low profile is designed not to obstruct the driver's rear view. An optional Swing-Away lets the lift pivot aside for cargo access.
Interior
Curb-Sider
Hoist (crane) style · multiple capacities
Stand near the curb or rear bumper, connect the docking device to your scooter, and the Curb-Sider power-lifts, rotates, and stows the mobility device inside your vehicle. Available in more than one lifting capacity — we confirm which version fits your device.
Interior
Joey
Platform style · up to 350 lb
Drive a scooter or powerchair onto the platform, press a button, and the Joey retracts it into the cargo area of a minivan, select SUV, or some full-size vans — keeping it dry. A safety barrier keeps the device out of the passenger area if the vehicle stops suddenly, and platform illumination plus a backlit hand control make it easy to use after dark.
Exterior
Chariot
Platform style · trailer-style
Transports a mobility device behind nearly any vehicle. Independent suspension bears the load and 360-degree wheels make the lift easy to maneuver when you are positioning your device.
Pickup Trucks
Out-Rider
Hoist (crane) style
A wheelchair lift engineered specifically for pickups. Connect the Out-Rider to your mobility device and press the button to lift and rotate your wheelchair, scooter, or powerchair into the truck bed.
Let's Narrow It Down
Free, no-obligation
Tell us your vehicle year, make, and model, and the make and weight of your mobility device. We will tell you which lifts fit — and which ones don't — before you spend anything. Try our Auto Lift Finder or call 800-343-1066.
Specifications are model-specific. Across the Bruno lineup, lift capacities range from 100 lb to 450 lb — a capacity or feature on one model does not carry over to another. Bruno notes that Out-Sider and Chariot installations typically take 1–2 hours, while a Joey or Curb-Sider may take 3–4 hours. Fit, capacity, and available options are confirmed for your exact vehicle and device before we quote anything. Every lift is covered by the applicable manufacturer warranty.

VA Funding for a Vehicle Lift
Vehicle equipment is handled through a different VA program than home modifications. HISA is a home-improvement benefit — it does not cover automobile lifts. The program that lists vehicle lifts is Automobile Adaptive Equipment (AAE).
What AAE Covers
VA's Automobile Adaptive Equipment program covers equipment that makes a vehicle usable, and VA lists vehicle lifts among that equipment. The program is for Veterans and Servicemembers with eligible service-connected disabilities.
Who Decides
VBA and VHA determine eligibility. Entitlement to adaptive equipment runs through an approved VA Form 10-1394 provided by VHA, while VA Form 21-4502 comes from VBA. Altamira does not approve, deny, or guarantee any VA benefit.
Start Before You Buy
VA directs applicants to contact the Prosthetics Service at their local VA medical center or outpatient clinic before purchasing equipment. Doing this first protects your claim.
How we help. We can provide the itemized written estimate for the lift and installation that VA typically asks for as part of the process. What we cannot do is tell you whether you qualify — that determination belongs to VA. For current program details, eligibility, and forms, go directly to VA.gov or call VA at 1-800-827-1000.

Vehicle Lift Questions from Dayton Customers
Does Altamira install automobile lifts in Dayton, OH?
Yes. Altamira Ltd. sells, installs, and services Bruno interior and exterior automobile lifts throughout Dayton and the Miami Valley, working out of our office at 3554 Intercity Drive.
Do I have to bring my vehicle to a shop?
No. Vehicle lift consultations are handled by phone or online rather than through an in-home visit, and installation takes place at your home or workplace. You never have to drop your vehicle off and arrange a ride home.
What is the difference between an interior and an exterior vehicle lift?
An interior lift stows your mobility device inside the vehicle's cargo area, protected from the weather. An exterior lift mounts to the hitch or rear of the vehicle and carries the device outside, which keeps your interior seating and cargo space free. Bruno's Joey and Curb-Sider are interior models; the Out-Sider and Chariot are exterior models.
Which lift is better for an Ohio winter?
An interior lift keeps your scooter or wheelchair inside the vehicle and out of snow, salt spray, and freezing rain, which is worth weighing if you drive year-round through Miami Valley winters. An exterior lift leaves the device exposed to weather and road conditions, but keeps your cargo space and seating free. Neither answer is automatic — it depends on your vehicle and how often you travel in bad weather.
Will a vehicle lift fit my car?
That depends on your specific vehicle and your specific mobility device. Bruno's lineup covers cars, minivans, SUVs, vans, and pickup trucks, and lift capacities across the lineup range from 100 lb to 450 lb. We confirm fit against your exact vehicle year, make, and model and your device's weight before quoting anything.
How much does an automobile lift cost?
We do not publish vehicle lift pricing, because the cost depends on the model, your mobility device, and your vehicle. Tell us those three things and we will give you an itemized written estimate at no cost and with no obligation.
Will the VA pay for my vehicle lift?
Vehicle lifts fall under VA's Automobile Adaptive Equipment program, not the HISA home-modification grant. VBA and VHA determine eligibility, and VA directs applicants to contact the Prosthetics Service at their local VA medical center before purchasing equipment. We can supply the itemized written estimate, but only VA can decide what it will authorize.
Does Altamira rent automobile lifts?
No. Altamira does not offer rentals. We sell, install, and service vehicle lifts.
